Alison (Peltigera)

Alison's gallery from October 2001 to February 2005.
Updated with latest pisture on 25th February 2005

Alison has had more influence on the direction of my work than anyone else. The first experienced fine art model I had worked with, she showed me how to use locations sometimes in the most innovative ways. At the time of our first shoot she had just returned from a summer holiday of modelling in California, to complete her fourth year for her botany degree at Aberdeen University. By sheer chance the location at Achanalt was covered in lichens and fungi, her specialist subjects, and so started a new interest for me too. Alison went back on the train to university with loads of samples for analysis! Following graduation Alison returned to Los Angeles, keeping in touch, but just before leaving she introduced me to marine biologist Laura, a university friend, who wanted to try modelling.

Both Alison, home for Christmas, & Laura visited me early in the New Year 2003. Just 3 months later, in March 2003, I travelled to Los Angeles with Laura to visit Alison, and the pictures taken can be seen in both their galleries. Thanks Alison for your support and encouragement, not just in photography, but giving me the confidence to travel across the world on my first ever scheduled flight. You have influenced not just my photography but my whole outlook on life …

Alison moved back to the UK with new husband Chris in September 2003, initially to Glasgow, and we did a shoot soon afterwards. Later in 2003 Alison & Chris moved to London where they live in a houseboat on the River Thames. In March 2004 Alison flew north to help me finalise a bio-diversity exhibition, but we managed a few new and unusual shots for this site too! Then in April 2004 Alison was here to research and lead some botany field trips, but we managed a couple of hours shoot on the last evening. In August 2004 Alison came for two days of shoots with photographers from abroad. Unfortunately, once they departed, Alison was quite poorly for most of the following days, so we only managed three new pictures for the gallery.

In February 2005 I had an abdominal operation, unfortunately after returning home I had a couple of setbacks and eventually had to return for further surgery. Alison asked if she could come for a few days to help me, it's at such times you find your real friends. Just one picture resulted from the visit ....
