Maria

Maria gallery from 22nd January 2004 to 23rd July 2006

Maria came from York for her first shoot, accompanied by her friend Nicki who is studying in Glasgow. Both have biology degrees, Maria is taking a year out before doing her Masters in Environmental Science. Her friend is doing a Masters in forensic biology. With my forensic background that meant we discussed everything from modelling to DNA !

The weather overcast and wet most of the time, so more than usual was done inside. Times we ventured out were few and far between, even then getting everything from drizzle to hail storms ! Maria is so enthusiatic and keen to suggest ideas for pictures, which is something I encourage.

Second shoot with Maria was in March when she flew up from London. Weather forecast was not too promising again, but we took advantage of the return trip from the airport to get some shots whilst there was some bright weather. We did quite a lot of fashion pictures on that visit which don't appear on this site.

In May 2004 the third shoot took us to Cabo Roig in the south of Spain for a week. We didn't escape the rain though, the streets were flooded the first day! Fortunately the weather improved later in the week. We did over 2000 pictures, but many were other styles like fashion and swimwear which don't appear on this site.

July 2004 was our fourth shoot, again many were other styles again, which was a similar situation on the next shoot in August 2004.

In November 2004 we returned to Spain for a week, but many of the pictures were fashion, lifestyle and portraits for magazine articles. We did manage a few fine art nudes on the shore and in a forest. A month later, in December, Maria came back to the Highlands for a couple of days, although again we were doing some fashion pictures, including ones for a local weavers. We managed a few for this site too.

Maria was back in the Highlands in January 2005. We only managed one sequence of pictures outside which lasted less than a minute! The remainder were inside in different styles, with the art nude ones shown here. It's just a year since we first met, my thanks Maria for your friendship and support. We have created many memorable images together in various styles in the Highlands and Spain.

On 13th April 2005 we should have gone to the Joshua Tree National Park in the United States. Unfortunately the complications after my operation in February prevented that, so Maria came to the Highlands instead. Once again the weather was far from ideal, complete changes within seconds, but we still managed some pictures outside as well as inside.

In June 2005 we went to Tuwanek, on the 'Sunshine Coast' near Vancouver, Canada.

It's very likely that this was the last shoot I will do with Maria, she is retiring from modelling and returning to university in September. It's been an extraordinary 18 months working with Maria, ten shoots, three being overseas. They amounted to 48 'shoot' days with a few more days for travel etc.

Maria is not just an exceptional model, but an exceptional person too. I count myself so fortunate to have created so many wonderful images together, and able to call you a true friend. Thanks for all your support, I will certainly miss you, but will never forget you, I'm sure we will keep in touch. Good luck for the future, you deserve it ...

Thank you Maria .....

.......Update 9th June 2006

...... we have kept in touch by messenger for the last year whilst Maria has been back at university. Delighted to know that all her hard work resulted in a Masters degree.

Maria came here on evening of 7-6-06 and next day we did fashion pictures for Lochcarron Weavers.
Before leaving the next morning we managed an hour of pictures near Stromemore for this site.

We visited California in July 2006, travelling from San Francisco to Los Angeles, via Yosemite and other great locations. Maria asked if we could do some tourist type things at the start. As well as going to Golden Gate Bridge (in fog), we went out to Alcatraz one evening at Maria's request. Our travels then took us south to the Aquarium at Monterey, we stayed in the town that night before heading inland to Mariposa on our way to Yosemite National Park.

The route took us through Yosemite National Park over the Tioga Pass, which rises to nearly 10,000 feet ! Then it was onwards visiting Bodie & Masonic ghost towns, Mono Lake and south along the Eastern Sierra Nevada stopping off at places we found on route. North of Los Angeles we met up with Zoe & Kat, so whilst Zoe was working with Maria I did a shoot with Kat. Once in LA at Valencia our good friend & photographer George took us to a derelict building in downtown LA, which completed the photographs taken on this trip.
